Robin Kay Heitman-Ribaudo passed away unexpectedly at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, December 8, 2006 at her home in Vandalia, Missouri. She and her husband Tony have lived in Vandalia since 2003. Robin was very enthusiastic about raising her children and spending as much time with them as she could. She was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed life and her family.

Born: May 14, 1958 in St. Louis County the daughter of Don L. and Elizabeth A. (Benert) Heitman.

Married: Tony S. Ribaudo on May 12, 1993 in Clayton, Missouri, he survives at the home.

Survivors include: her husband, Tony of Vandalia; her mother, Elizabeth Heitman of Chesterfield, Missouri; two sons, Anthony D. Ribaudo and Landon S. Ribaudo both of Vandalia; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Heitman of Webster Groves and Rebecca A. Ribaudo of Vandalia; one brother, Tony Heitman of Wichita, Kansas; mother and father-in-laws, Salvatore and Gail Ribaudo of Lake St. Louis, Missouri and Roger and Joy Guerette of Pacific, Missouri; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles also survive.

Married: Edward Eugene "Jack" Gooch on November 25, 1938; he preceded her in death on July 6, 1991.

Survivors include: three sons, Richard and wife, JoAn Gooch of Vandalia; William and wife, Carole Gooch of Kingston, Georgia; Robert Gooch of Vandalia; three daughters, Jean Ann Drainer of Farber; Linda and husband, Shannon Culwell of Vandalia; Rebecca and husband, John Allen of Columbia, Tennessee; four brothers, Roger Motley of Mexico; Robert Motley of Vandalia; Rudolph Motley of Texas and Ronnie Motley of Vandalia; two sisters, Ruth Atkinson of Vandalia and Rowena Kohl of Vandalia; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Ernest D. Cahill passed away at 12:25 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri. Ernie was a 1937 graduate of Oneida, Illinois high school and worked on a farm for several years. He then entered the U. S. Army Air Corps in July 1943 and was a pilot in central Europe during World War II. After getting out of the service in 1946, he farmed in Woodhill, Illinois until moving to the Vandalia area in 1952. While in the Vandalia area, he and his wife Dorothy made their home on a farm southwest of Vandalia and Ernie also worked for nearly 30 years at Harbison Walker Refractories. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as an elder, church treasurer and president of the congregation. Ernie had been a member of the Vandalia Flying Club and enjoyed fishing, painting, writing poetry and all sports. He was a charter member and instrumental with several others in the area to start the Mid-Missouri Refractories Credit Union, which is now United Credit Union in Vandalia. He also prepared taxes for area residents for many years out of his home.

Born: February 13, 1919 in Hardin County, Kentucky the son of Birdle D. and Goldie (Spencer) Cahill.

Married: Dorothy Ann Failor in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on February 20, 1943; she survives at the home.

Survivors include: Dorothy of Vandalia; three daughters, Anne C. and husband, Danny Barnes of rural Vandalia, Missouri; Jane E. Cahill of Seattle, Washington; Peggy S. Cahill and friend, Joe Bartek of Bellingham, Washington; one brother, Martin Cahill of Galesburg, Illinois; one daughter-in-law, Donileen Cahill of Tampa, Florida; three grandchildren, Amy and husband, Travis Miller of Mexico, Missouri; Nancy and husband, Philip Trimm of Grand Juction, Colorado; Adam and Kristin Barnes of Dacula, Georgia; four great-grandsons, Ryan Miller, Alex Barnes, Josh Connelly and Jaxon Trimm.

Preceded in death by: one son, Spencer E. Cahill in 2006.

Eugene Earl "Jake" Miller passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri. After school, Jake farmed and worked on highway construction for several years in the area. He then became the manager of the City of Vandalia power plant for 15 years. Jake then took a position as maintenance supervisor for Glenwood Manor Motel in Overland Park, Kansas. He held that position for over 15 years, retiring in 1980. While in the Vandalia area, Jake has maintained his membership at the Southside Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and his association with the Masonic fraternity. Jake was a life member of the Vandalia VFW Post 2173 and was a 50+ year Mason, receiving his pin for this rare accomplishment in December 1997. Jake's son Ed, helped with the presentation of the 50 year pin in Pike Lodge #399 in Curryville, Missouri. During the many years that Jake belonged to the Masonic fraternity, he served the Pike Lodge as its worshipful master on four different occasions.

Born: May 6, 1918 in rural Bowling Green, Missouri the son of Thomas Jefferson and Ethel Lillian (Starhn) Miller.

Married: Evalene Mae Williams who preceded him in death on July 3, 1995.

Survivors include: six sons, Earl A. Miller of the LosAngeles, California area; Marty and wife, Betty Miller of Hannibal, Missouri; Ed and wife, Shirley Miller of Bowling Green, Missouri; Kenny and wife, Patti Miller of Frankford, Missouri; Charlie Miller of the state of Texas; Ronnie and wife, Marsha Miller of Overland Park, Kansas; one daughter, Diana and husband, Glenn Egley of Houston, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Harry Miller, Howard Miller and Elmer Lee Miller; one sister, Dorothy Miller.

Samuel A. Martin passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 10, 2006 at his home in Mobile, Alabama. Sam grew up in the Vandalia area and was a 1962 Van-Far High School graduate. After high school, he received his associates degree from Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal, Missouri in 1964. He served in the U. S. Army from 1967 to 1968. Sam received his mechanical engineering degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1975. He worked as a mechanical engineer in Illinois for a short time, several years in the St. Louis area and then in Savannah, Georgia. He then moved to Mobile in 1992. Sam enjoyed bass fishing when he had the chance.

Born: October 9, 1944 in Vandalia, Missouri the son of Sam P. and Mary Margaret (Flowerree) Martin.

Married: Shirley Snyder on August 26, 1967 in Roxana, Illinois.

Survivors include: one daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" Martin of Seattle, Washington; special friend, Sharon Windham of Mobile, Alabama; two brothers, Don Martin of Louisiana, Missouri and Bradley Martin of Vandalia, Missouri; three sisters, Muriel Beshears of Vandalia; Nita Rooney of Marietta, Georgia and Judy LeMasters of Chanute, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.

Steven Michael Sutton passed away unexpectedly at 7:35 p.m. at the home of his mother in Vandalia, Missouri. Steven was a 1972 Van-Far high school graduate. Devoted to family, he had spent the day on an outing with his mother, Mary Bennethum. Only two nights earlier, the two St. Louis Cardinals fans had stayed up late to watch their team win a World Series title. Mr. Sutton also followed football's Kansas City Chiefs and also enjoyed fishing. During high school he was a standout in football, basketball and track. He had worked for nearly the past five years as the safety coordinator at Titan Wheel in Quincy. Steven had attended the United Methodist Church when a resident here several years ago.

Born: March 13, 1954 in Van Wert, Ohio the son of Paul Edgar Sutton and Mary Evelyn (Bixler) Bennethum.

Married: Sherry Whitney in 1973.

Survivors include: mother, Mary E. Bennethum of Vandalia, Missouri; father, Paul E. Anna E. DeTienne passed away at 7:21 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2006 at the Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. Anna attended area schools and graduated from the Vandalia High School in 1929. She did clerical work at the North American Refractories in Farber, Missouri starting August 9, 1929 and retired from there on February 1, 1974. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia and was an avid Cardinal baseball fan. In February 1979, Anna moved to the John Knox Village retirement center in Higgensville, Missouri and was a resident there until she passed away.

Born: July 20, 1911 in Whiteside, Missouri the daughter of Arch J. and Marguerite (Pennington) Sanderson.

Married: Harold H. DeTienne on January 25, 1931 in Paris, Missouri; he preceded her in death on July 4, 1970.

Survivors include: two cousins, Thresa Bernice Harris of Vandalia, Missouri and Dorris Breneman of Mexico; a very good friend, Betty Rawlings of Vandalia.

Preceded in death by: one brother and husband, Harold.

T. Jane Viens passed away unexpectedly at 2:56 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Missouri. Jane grew up in the Colorado Springs, Colorado area and attended schools there. After school and her marriage, she worked as a seamstress for several different drapery and quilt manufacturers. Jane was a Christian by faith and enjoyed sewing, crochet and collecting Longaberger baskets and pottery.

Born: January 13, 1935 in Chepachet, Rhode Island the daughter of Wilfred Henry and Mertis Bell (Storm) Emsley.

Married: Robert James Hutsell in the early 1950's; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include: one son, Joel S. Hutsell of Lees Summit, Missouri; one daughter, Candace R. and husband, Wayne Willis of Vandalia, Missouri; one brother, Frank Emsley of the state of Colorado and one sister, Peg Cobb of the state of California; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

John Curry Morris passed away at 9:23 p.m. Tuesday evening, September 19, 2006 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri.

Born: March 24, 1912 in Vandalia, Missouri the son of Ray Pearson and Dora Belle (Liter) Morris.

Married: Grace Elizabeth Rector in St. Charles, Missouri on July 19, 1932; she survives.

Malcolm L. Dowell passed away at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at his home in Vandalia, Missouri. Malcolm served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was in the Phillipines and the occupation of Japan. After the service, he started working at the CE Refractories near Farber, Missouri as a forklift opeator. Malcolm worked at CE for over 39 years, retiring in March 1984. He was a charter member of the Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. Malcolm enjoyed woodcrafts, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Born: September 24, 1922 in Center, Missouri the son of Jettie Christopher and Nona Myrtle (Hendricks) Dowell.

Married: Wilma N. Reddick in Center on August 28, 1941; she preceded him in death on August 6, 2003.

James N. "Toot" Culwell passed away at 2:50 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2006 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He grew up on a farm outside of Gazette, Missouri and was a 1959 Bowling Green High School graduate. Toot served in the U. S. Air Force from 1959 to 1962 and after the service moved his family to St. Charles, Missouri where he worked for McDonnell-Douglas. After a short period, he bought a farm near Gazette and while farming he also worked for Dundee Cement Company. In 1982, Toot moved his family to the oil fields of Borger, Texas where he worked as a mechanic. Toot moved back to the rural Middletown area in 1994 and had various jobs until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Estes Presbyterian Church and the Curryville Masonic Lodge.

Born: August 25, 1941 in Buffalo, New York the son of E. W. and Velma (Turpin) Culwell.

Married: Delores Jennings on July 30, 1960 in Bowling Green, Missouri.

Survivors include: three sons, James N. Culwell Jr. of Mexico, Missouri; Phillip W. and wife, Joyce Culwell of Bowling Green, Missouri; Timothy G. Oma Bea married Roy Frank Thompson and after his worked as a seamstress for the Bobby Brooks garment factory in Vandalia. She was a Christian by faith and enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born: October 26, 1919 in Perry, Missouri the daughter of Walter Lewis and Mucie Belle (Gregory) Wilkinson.

Curtis Pearl Schulze passed away at 5:10 a.m. Monday, May 29, 2006 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, Missouri. Curtis was a 1937 Vandalia High School graduate and entered the U. S. Navy in 1938. His ship was in Pearl Harbor during the attack on December 7, 1941. Curtis was a survivor and remained in the Navy until being discharged from active duty in November 1968. He stayed in the U. S. Navy 30 years, including the three years he taught Navy ROTC, at the University of Missouri, Columbia. After his return home in 1968, Curtis was actively involved in veterans' organizations, he served on the Vandalia City Council four years, was the municipal judge, a substitute rural mail carrier, president and secretary of the Vandalia Cemetery Association and a past chairman of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.

Born: January 12, 1920 in Vandalia, Missouri the son of Louis Carl and Pearl Dell (Schwartz) Schulze.

Anna Lucille Suddarth passed away at 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri. Having grown up and attending schools in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, Lucille graduated from the Clearfield High School in 1936. She worked at a couple theaters in Clearfield and that is where she met her future husband, Elmer. They moved to Vandalia in April 1952 and was a full-time homemaker. She was a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Vandalia where she was a member of the Women's Guild. Lucille had also helped at the Vandalia Playcare and enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Born: July 14, 1918 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania the daughter of Percy Ronald and Eunice Catherine (Harley) Roseberry.

Married: Elmer Suddarth on January 7, 1944 in Crown Point, Indiana; he preceded her in death on July 1, 1984.

Survivors include: one son, Robert L. and his former wife, Becky Suddarth of Vandalia; one half brother, Clarence Wiley of Greenville, Pennsylvania; two grandsons, Bernie L. Suddarth of O'Fallon and Garon L. Suddarth of Vandalia.

John Gregory Jaeger passed away unexpectedly at 12:35 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, Missouri. John was a 1979 graduate of Francis Howell High School in St. Charles and lived most of his life in the St. Charles county area. He had worked for over 17 years as a heavy equipment operator for Dave Kolb Grading of St. Charles. John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed horseback riding and camping. He and his wife, Annette, were members of the United Methodist Church in Vandalia and also members of the NEMO Gated Horse Club.

Born: March 23, 1961 in St. Charles, Missouri the son of Kenneth Ivan and Carol Jean (Orf) Jaeger.

Married: Annette (Kohl) Beckler on April 8, 2006 in rural Vandalia, Missouri; she survives at the home.

Mary Fern (Ledford) See passed away at 8:20 a.m., Wednesday March 8, 2006 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital after a long illness. She was a lifelong rural Vandalia resident and attended area schools. Mary was a member of the Hays Creek Christian Church and had been a homemaker on the family farm all her adult life. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, Bluegrass music and playing many musical instruments.

Born: February 16, 1932 in rural Vandalia to William Cleo and Zella Cecil (Benn) Ledford.

Married: Robert Dave See on January 29, 1949 in Vandalia, Missouri; he preceded her in death on February 15, 2006.

Survivors include: two sons: Bobby and wife, Edith See of Fayette, Missouri; George and wife, Audrey See of Sante Fe; one daughter: Rebecca and husband, Randy Smith of Perry, Missouri; one sister, JoAnn and husband, Ronnie Henderson of Lampasas, Texas; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Robert; one sister, Zella "Tootie' Nutt and one great-grandson, Devin See.

Ruth L. Elzea, age 89, died at 2:29 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Country View Nursing Home in Bowling Green, Missouri.

A lifelong resident of Vandalia, Ruth was known for her devotion to teaching. She started her teaching career at the age of 16 and continued on to enjoy 43 years of teaching in rural Vandalia schools and at the Vandalia North and South Elementary Schools.

Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church, Vandalia where her Christian witness was an example for many. She taught Sunday school for many years and actively served in the Women's Ministry and Education Ministry. She was instrumental in the organization and development of the Church Library in 1970. In 1995, the Library was dedicated as the Ruth Elzea Library for grateful appreciation of her loyal devotion and unselfish service as Church Librarian. She was also a member of the Monday Study Club and the Van-Far R-1 Retired Teachers Association.

She was a 1933 Perry High School graduate and received her bachelor of science in education degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1940.

Born: September 29, 1916 in Center, Missouri to Roy Peter & Winnie Katherine (Schulse) Fanning.


Married: Mac Henry Elzea on August 2, 1941 in Hannibal; he preceded her in death on May 10, 1989.


Survivors include: one son: James Mac and wife, Barbara Elzea of Vandalia; four grandchildren: James Bradford Elzea of Springfield, Missouri; Michelle Alaine and husband, Chad Parsons of New London, Missouri; Brandon Paul and wife, Nicole Elzea of Vandalia and Ashlee Nicole Elzea of Vandalia; six great-grandchildren: Kinley Anna, Katie Ashlyn and Klair Alaina Elzea; Jacob Andrew and Jordan Alexis Garner and Makenna Nicole Unglesbee all of Vandalia; one sister: Billie and husband, Everett Ray of Perry, Missouri; several nieces and nephews.

Rosa N. Smith, age 84 died at 8:35 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2006 at the West View Nursing Home in Center. She had been an installment loan officer at Centerre Bank of Florissant for 28 years before retiring in 1984 and moving back to Vandalia.

A member of the First Baptist Church, Vandalia, she was active in several banking organizations such as the St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Bank Women; the Bankers Installment Credit Association of Greater St. Louis; the Business and Professional Women’s Association of Florissant and Soroptimist International of North St. Louis County. After moving back to Vandalia, she was active with the Vandalia D. A. R. chapter and helped her daughter Kathy at the Short Stop and Grocery Depot. She enjoyed reading, crochet, knitting and was an avid Cardinal baseball fan.

She was valedictorian of the 1939 class of Vandalia High School and attended one year at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Born: August 5, 1921 in rural Vandalia, Missouri to Jefferson H. & Fanny M. (Inlow) Wright.


Married: Frederick E. Smith on June 16, 1941 in St. Louis; he preceded her in death on May 17, 1981.


Survivors include: one daughter: Kathy Hunn of Vandalia; one grandson: Robert J. and wife, Marlo Hunn of Vandalia; two granddaughters: Katlyn Rose Hunn and Abigail Grace Hunn of Vandalia; three sisters-in-law: LoAnna Wright of Vandalia; Betty Richter of Ohio and Kathleen Pontrelli of California; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: two brothers: Harve Wright and Jack Wright.

Robert Dave See age 76 of rural Vandalia, died at 2:52 a.m., February 15, 2006
at the Beth Haven Nursing Center in Hannibal, Missouri. Mr. See had worked as a kiln operator for Harbison Walker Refractories in Vandalia from Oct. 3, 1955 until retiring Apr. 1, 1994. He was a lifelong Vandalia area resident and a member of the Hays Creek Baptist Church.

Born: January 31, 1930 in Perry, Missouri the son of Luther Coon and Nona May (Shaver) See.


Married: On January 29, 1949 he married Mary Fern Ledford in Vandalia; she survives.


Survivors include:two sons: Bobby and wife, Edith See of Fayette, Missouri; George and wife, Audrey See of Sante Fe; one daughter: Rebecca and husband, Randy Smith of Perry, Missouri; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Delores Jean Schamma died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at the Pin Oak Care Center in Mexico. She had been a seamstress at Bobby Brooks garment factory for years and also was a home maker. She lived most of her adult life in Vandalia. Member of the United Methodist Church, Vandalia; she also enjoyed gardening, cooking, helping drive friends around town to the store, doctors, etc.; and attending country music shows.

Born: August 30, 1931 in Perry, MO to William & Bessie L. (Krigbaum) Goodhart.


Married: Melvin K. Schamma on December 16, 1950 in Hannibal, MO; he preceded her in death on December 8, 1995.


Survivors include: three sons: Melvin "Butch" and wife, Jeane Schamma Jr. of Jacksonville, IL; Roger Schamma and friend, Donna Mitchell of Vandalia; Danny and wife, Patty Schamma of Lewis Center, OH; three daughters: Sharon "Sherry" Allison and friend, David Evans of Mexico; Susan and husband, Lester Clough of Mexico; Judy Clough and friend, Ronnie Dugan of Strafford, MO; three brothers: Wayne Goodhart of Louisville, KY; Eddie Goodhart of Rockport, IL and Jimmy Goodhart of Jacksonville, IL; one sister: Shirley Elliott of Bowling Green;12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

George F. Bailey died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. After graduating from high school and receiving his bachelor's degree in history from Central Missouri State Teachers College, and his master's degree in education from the University of Missouri in Columbia, George started teaching in the Bowling Green R I school district. He taught for three years and then served as the elementary principal at Frankford and Curryville schools for 18 years. During this time, George also farmed in the Curryville area.

George lived most of his life in the rural Curryville area.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, song leader, Sunday school teacher and church moderator for many years; a member of the Pike County Historical Society; BPM Club in Vandalia; Vandalia Country Club and Pike County retired teachers association. George enjoyed playing golf every chance he could.

Born: March 30, 1917 in Clarksburg, MO to Fred & Bernyce Hattie (Don Carlos) Bailey.


Married: Anna Claudine Henry on Dec. 24, 1938 in Latham, MO; she survives.

Dr. Richard H. Lange, died at 2:30 p.m. Jan 30, 2006, at his home in Vandalia. A longtime Vandalia chiropractor, Dr. Lange graduated from high school and went on to receive a bachelor's degree from Missouri/Logan College. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served overseas during the Korean War. He then moved to Vandalia and opened his chiropractic practice in 1954, retiring from his practice in 1995.

Dr. Lange also was active in church and community activities. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Vandalia, where he had served as an elder, trustee, choir member and director and youth Sunday school teacher. He served 12 years on the Van-Far School Board and was president one year. Dr. Lange had been a Red Cross water safety instructor at the city pool for many years and was an area delegate and past president of the Chiropractic Society of Missouri. He was a member of the Vandalia Masonic Lodge No. 491, where he recently received his 50-year pin.

He lived most of his adult life in Vandalia.

Born: Aug. 2, 1930, in Farmington to Herman E. and Agnes Specht Lange.

Married: Dorothy Perry on March 17, 1951, in St. Louis. She survives at the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Janet Glass of Charlottesville, Va.; Patti Moore of Austin, Texas; and Tracy Rentfro of Ashburn, Va.; six grandchildren, Richard Eppelsheimer of North Garden, Va.; Alyson Clevenger of Timberville, Va.; Michael Glass of Charlottesville, Va.; Megan Moore of Austin, Texas; and Ryan Rentfro and Cooper Rentfro of Ashburn, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Destiny Crider and Jacob and Alyssa Clevenger, all of Timberville, Va.; and one brother, Robert Lange of Godfrey, Ill.

Preceded in death by: his parents and one nephew.

Born: November 4, 1918, in Troy, Ill., to Joseph B. and Cora Dell (Callen) Spencer.

Married: Orlan R. Kastien on Dec. 29, 1967. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1997.

Survivors include one sister, Jean Jansma of Buda, Texas; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceded in death by: one sister, Della L. Hurshman, and three brothers, Glenn, Harold "Curly" and Kenneth Spencer.

Don E. Langford died at 1:33 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2006 at the
Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri. After high school, he received training and was a journeyman as a tool-and-die maker before going into the U. S. Navy, where he served during World WAr II in the African-Asian and Pacific Theatres. After his service during World War II, Don returned to the area and worked at the ammonia plant in Louisiana owned by the U. S. Bureau of Mines until he became the State Farm Insurance Agent in Vandalia on Dec. 1, 1962. He maintained that position until his retirement on August 31, 2005.

A 1939 Vandalia High School graduate, he had been a lifelong Vandalia area resident. Member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon; a Paul Harris Fellow and member of the Vandalia Rotary Club and past member of the Vandalia Fair Board.

Served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the
African-Asian and Pacific Theaters.

Born: November 3, 1919 in Ralls County to Victor C. & Naoma J. (Webb)
Langford.

Married: Marguerite McCollum on Feb. 15, 1942 near Vandalia; she survives
at the home.

Other survivors include: one son: Larry and wife, Melanie Langford of Leawood, KS; one daughter: Linda Pollock of Lee's Summit; two grandchildren: Andrew and Allison Langford of Kansas City; nephews: Clinton Langford of Phoenix and Marvin Langford of Melbourne, Fla.

Preceded in death by: twin brothers who died in infancy: Orville & Norville Langford; brothers: Verle Langford and Marvin Langford; one sister; Muriel Langford who died in infancy; one nephew Delbert Langford.
